Super Blood Full Moon Lunar Eclipse 26 May 2021
Coledale rock platform, 2021
On the 26th of May, 2021 a super blood full moon occurred in conjunction with a lunar eclipse, visible in the southern hemisphere. Certain people within my artistic, creative and local community nudged me to mark the event with a circle. Intuition lead me to a pile of red rocks, nearby my home on the rock platform at Coledale. I invited friends and art colleagues as well as people I felt would benefit from the intangible yet uplifting rewards of moving and making with earth materials and other humans, in a liminal place between land and sea, during a celestial event with gravitas. Artist and curator Daniel Mudie Cunningham was invited but couldn’t attend. He later reflected upon his experiences that day (at two events including this one), in Blue skies, blood moon, written for Artlink (In Public/Inside, Issue 41:2, August 2021). I am greatly indebted to Lizzie, Lizzie, Michele, Lucas, Harry, Dusty, Caitlin, Marta, Shooshi, Jen, Michelle and Nadia. I’m especially grateful to Elle McNeill for wrangling cameras.
